Varenna 

The city of Varenna si accessible in different ways: 

• by car: following the SS36 of  lake  Como and the Spluga along the branch of Lecco. 

Varenna is located about 30 km fronte lecco. 

To enjoy the beautiful view of the lake it’s possible to take the exit of Mandello del Lario and continue along the SS36 of Lake Como and of the Spluga Pass.

Going through Valchiavenna dello Spluga, or going down of Engadina (St. Moritz). 

After Colico you drive 40 km more before taking the exit at Bellano/Valsassina; after about 6 km you arrive at Varenna, following the street near the lake.

To reach the Castle of Vetzio there are two possibilities:

• By car: once in Varenna near the bridge, turn towards Esino Lario and, after some hairpin bends, follow the signs for “Vezio-Castello di Vezio”. Simply following the paved road, you reach a small parking lot where you can park your car. From here you can reach the Castle of Vezio walking for a few minutes through the narrow and maze alleys of the small town of Vezio, a fraction of the town of Perledo. Just follow the tourist signs that indicate the entrance to the Castle.
• Walking: The path to reach the Castle of Vezio from Varenna starts right next to the Restaurant Montecodeno. The climb takes 20-30 minutes but is quite steep, so recommended for those accustomed to walking. The path is easily reached on foot in a few minutes from Varenna Railway Station (for those arriving by train), from the landing stage (for those arriving by ferry) and from the car parks in the center of Varenna (for those arriving by car).For the walk back to Varenna you can follow another very fascinating path from the landscape point of view, the Scabium Path (or Alpine Path)downhill, quite equivalent in duration and difficulty compared to the one-way route but a bit more challenging uphill. The entrance to the Scabium Trail is right in front of Villa Monastero in Varenna.
